Boiler Maintenance Tips for Spring

Lower the temperature on your thermostat.

As the weather outside gradually rises, you may have noticed that your home is becoming somewhat warmer. With more sunshine entering the home, it will naturally grow warmer, therefore it makes sense to lower the thermostat. Even a simple temperature adjustment of one degree will make a difference not just in the temperature but also in your utility bills. You might even add a smart thermostat to cut your gas expenditures even further.

Check for any leaks or abnormalities.

While your boiler has been working hard all winter, there is a good probability that it has developed a leak, which is usually after the winter months. When the temperature warms up, the cold pipes expand and can shatter, resulting in leaks.

Examine any of the seals surrounding the boiler to ensure that everything is still tightly linked. You should also keep an ear out for any noises, as gurgling or bubbling sounds could indicate an issue, this means you should contact a gas safe engineer. While the likelihood of an issue is low, the sooner you detect it and resolve it, the less likely you are to encounter it.

Give Your Boiler a Service

Spring is an excellent time to service your gas boiler because you will not be relying on it as much during the summer months and it has already been through a whole winter. Furthermore, booking a boiler service now will ensure that you don’t face any unpleasant shocks next winter. Booking a boiler service is simple and easy, and it will keep your boiler safe.

Check the Radiators

Your heating system is made up of more than just your boiler. Your radiators are a vital component of the system. As a result, you should check and clean all radiators to verify that they are dust-free. Then, if you know how, bleed them to check that any air is expelled and that they are performing properly. There is also the possibility that they will become clogged with dirt, necessitating flushing which we’ll go through below.

Book a Power Flush

Dirt and sludge can clog your system and hinder your radiators from working properly. As a result, radiators may feel patchy or frigid to the touch. A flush will remove all of the sludge and dirt from your boiler, allowing it to operate more efficiently.

If your boiler isn’t working properly and has been costing you money in repairs, now is the time to think about upgrading.  It’s recommended contacting with a gas engineer first because they will be able to offer guidance, but a new boiler could make a significant difference in your home.

Whether you’ve had a few expensive troubles recently or your boiler is growing old, spring is an excellent time to replace it. Because the weather will be better for any work, you may leave your windows open to help with ventilation while your boiler installers can work.
