A broken boiler can be extremely inconvenient, especially during the harsh winter months when you are without heating or hot water until an engineer can come out and replace it.

Boilers always seem to know when you’re at your busiest and decide to break at that precise moment, which is why we understand the pressure to get the job done as quickly as possible to get your heating back up and running without taking too much time out of your busy life.

The typical time required to install a new boiler

It usually takes 1-3 days to install a new boiler. This can vary if the boiler is being relocated from one room to another, but we would expect a simple boiler installation to take one day.

The time it takes to install a new boiler depends on several factors, including the type of boiler you currently have, whether you want to switch to a different type, whether you want to relocate your boiler, and whether any additional work, such as installing entirely new pipes, is required.

In this guide, we’ll look at how these factors can affect how long it takes and how much it costs to install a new boiler, but first, let’s look at what a standard boiler installation entails.

How Long Does It Take to Install a New Combi Boiler?

4-6 Hours

The simplest and quickest installation procedure is to replace an old combi boiler with a new combi boiler in the same location. Assuming everything goes well, our boiler installer will normally need a day to complete this task (4-6 hours).

During this time, the heating engineer will remove the old boiler, replace it, provide a free chemical flush (not to be confused with a “power flush”), and install a thermostat.

When the job is finished, they will clean up the debris and dispose of the old boiler as well as the new boiler packaging.

How long does it take to replace an existing system/regular boiler with a new combi boiler?

2 – 4 Days

If you have a regular or system boiler and want to convert to a combi boiler, it will take longer than a like-for-like swap due to the extra work required, such as removing the no longer needed water tank and any new plumbing.

The installers must also gain access to the heating system, which may require lifting floorboards and performing any necessary repairs.

How Long Does it Take to Replace an Old back boiler with a New Combi Boiler?

2 – 4 Days

Because of the additional work required, converting from a back boiler to a combi boiler can take up to two days. First and foremost, you will need to relocate your boiler to a different part of the house.

This could be in a kitchen closet, an airing cupboard, a utility room, or elsewhere…

Second, all boilers must have a flue or other means of venting dangerous gases like carbon monoxide. Back boilers vent these gases directly up a chimney, but a combi boiler can vent in both horizontal and vertical directions. This means you’ll need to install a new standard flue from the boiler’s new location.

All necessary work, such as removing the back boiler, relocating the new combi, and any repiping or flue work.

How Long Will It Take to Move My Boiler?

+ Half a Day

There are several reasons why someone might want to move their boiler from one location to another. Many homeowners, for example, believe that having a boiler in their kitchen cabinet wastes valuable storage space. Customers may prefer to have their boiler relocated from their kitchen to the loft or an airing cupboard in such cases.

Due to the additional work required in transferring your boiler, such as repiping and installing a new flue, this can take up to a half-day in addition to the time required to remove your old boiler and install the new one. The further you move the boiler from its original location, the more complicated the process becomes and thus the longer it takes.
