When Does My New Boiler Need Its First Boiler Service?

Do you know when a new boiler will require its first service? A Gas Safe registered gas engineer will inspect your home’s gas appliances and heating systems, including your boiler, during a boiler service. Unless you are a landlord, having an annual boiler service and obtaining a CP12 certificate is not a legal necessity in the UK.  Though not a legal necessity, yearly boiler servicing will keep your home secure and your boiler under warranty.

Our gas engineers discuss when and how to schedule your first service, who needs to conduct boiler services and who needs a gas safety certificate.

Is it necessary to service new boilers?

If you have recently installed a new boiler, you will undoubtedly want to consider when it will require servicing. This will ensure that it lasts a long time and keeps your home nice and warm. Boilers, like other gas appliances, require regular maintenance to ensure that they work as smoothly and safely as possible.

Having your new boiler serviced within the first 12 months of installation will allow you to honour the terms of your warranty and prevent any significant problems from arising in the future as a result of a badly maintained boiler.

Who Can Service a Gas Boiler?

A Gas Safe registered engineer should always service your gas boiler since they are qualified to detect any minor issues. If you had your boiler properly installed, the business that installed it will also be able to offer the service, so make sure you schedule it when you have your boiler installed! If your gas boiler is still under warranty, any repairs that are required should be free of charge – but keep in mind that you may be charged if you do not follow the terms of your warranty.

Who Is Required to Have a Gas Safe Certificate?

A Gas Safe certificate, also known as a CP12, is a certification that says that your gas appliances are in accordance with regulations and that they are safe to use. These are obtained from your gas engineer once your gas boiler has been serviced and are a legal requirement for UK landlords. After your boiler inspection, your gas engineer will provide you with your Gas Safety Record, which should be renewed every 12 months.
